Our Rating System

Hi! You've stumbled onto our rating scale, which we've decided to write a handy little guide for. Like many book blogs, we award books points but what exactly does that even mean? Good question. Please keep in mind that the amount of points we award a book is highly subjective and three points, for example, might mean something for Ella and something completely different for Ludovica. That's why we usually write long detailed reviews: We like to explain why a book received three points so you, dear reader, are able to understand our reasoning and rating better. But we do have some guidelines we rate books by so here they are:
5 Points are going to be rare, since they are reserved for absolutely awesome books that could hardly have been better. Books that receive 5 Points are perfect for us, our new favourite books, little darlings we wouldn't change anything about, even if we could.
4 Points are for books that were really good, but still didn’t quite make the cut to 5, for whatever reason. You know, that kind of book: Awesome premise, awesome characters, awesome writing but something is off or missing or you don't like the way it ended or one character got on your nerves the whole time... that's a 4 Points book. A really good book that just lacks that little extra special book magic that 5 Points books have.
3 Points are for books that were good, but might have some major problems; alternatively, these could be books that might be good, but not -that- good. Since three's in the middle, you could also say a 3 Point book is mostly mediocre. An entertaining read but not something you'd add to your favourite shelf or reread any time soon. A fun book, a nice book, but not a special book.
2 Points are for books that might not have been exactly bad, but were mostly just boring or had some major problems we can't or don't want to ignore. You can enjoy a book but still not really like it once you're finished because there were too many problems, that's a 2 Point book.
1 Point is for books that we did not enjoy at all. Sometimes you just meet a book that really isn't for you, even though it might be someone else's favourite and sometimes a book is just bad in your opinion. 1 Point reviews will be our most detailed reviews because we like to explain what bothers us about books thoroughly. We do not like to hate on books and we won't but we might get extra snarky in 1 Point reviews because sometimes you just can't help it.
DNFs are still reviewed, though whether we rate them or not will be decided on a case to case basis. We think that you can have an opinion about a book even though you didn't finish it and you can always state your reasons for not finishing it, which is what we'll be doing.

We also award half points. Sometimes we're just not quite sure which rating to give a book so we decided to make life easier for us by just awarding half points if we can't decide whether a book deserves a higher or lower rating.
